When the news of this world begins to weigh heavily on my heart, I often find that I need to intentionally reset my thinking. One verse I continually return to is Ephesians 1:18-19.
"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the boundless greatness of His power toward us who believe."
Focusing on the hope of His calling helps me lift my eyes from the struggles and distractions of today and fix them on what is eternal. It reminds me of God's promises of a resurrected life, the return of Jesus, and the day when His Kingdom will be fully established.
This kind of hope is very different from the way we often use the word in everyday conversation. It's not wishful thinking, uncertainty, or "I hope so." It's not crossing our fingers and hoping things work out.
Biblical hope is a confident expectation. It is the settled assurance of the inheritance we have through Christ's death and resurrection. When we live in the hope of His calling, our eyes remain fixed on His Kingdom rather than the shifting circumstances around us.
This is the hope that steadies my mind when life feels overwhelming. It calms my heart, reminds me of God's goodness, and anchors me in His promises. Living in the hope of His calling is often the reset I need to refocus my heart on what matters most and where my true hope is found.
